Mark Juliano lived in New York City until age 8, and then after Princeton for 3 years. In between, I was in Jericho Long Island and went to NYC all the time.
What can you say about The Big Apple — it’s got everything. But it’s so much more than a 20-million person metropolis. New York is really a collection of hundreds of neighborhoods, each with it’s own character.
My favorite is Greenwich Village, with it’s quaint small streets lined with brownstones, outdoor cafes, shops and restaurants. The “Village” is ever changing as can be witnessed by the Meat Packing District — once a home of just meat — now a vibrant mini-neighborhood in Greenwich Village that made a complete transformation in the 1990s.
Of course, there’s Washington Square park where you can see virtually every type of person from around the City and the world, and the home of NYU.
